Our reporters around the globe rigorously report on untold stories and the interconnected issues affecting women and their communities everywhere. Our reporting often leads the news cycle and is published in prominent outlets, bringing the full story to a large and diverse audience.
Since 2015, our team has published hundreds of articles and reached millions of readers. In the past year, we reported on stories such as: gas flaring in the Niger delta and its health and economic effects on women in the region, a multi-part series on COVID-19 affecting women in India reported on and by 18 local reporters across the country, and links between domestic violence and extreme weather.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced South Asia-based reporter who can cover environment and climate reporting through the lens of gender and other related issues such as health, migration, labor, and economics. The reporter should have at least five to seven years of experience reporting on environmental issues in the region. Candidates should highlight past reporting that shows expertise and be prepared to pitch us stories.
This role will focus on stories in South Asia, and may include countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
The ideal candidate shares a passion for our mission, has experience working in a newsroom, is deadline-focused, independent, sees trends and can identify stories for longer-range coverage, and is constantly asking themselves, “Whose voice is missing from the conversation? What is the historical or systemic context surrounding this issue? How can I go deeper?” Ideal candidates will also have the following background and skills:
This position is a one-year role based in South Asia, with a preference for reporters based in India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh. We prefer candidates currently living in the region.
